Revisiting Laramie, Wyoming

Downtown Laramie
Laramie, Wyoming is a city near and dear to my heart. It is home to my alma mater, University of Wyoming, and the place I met my wife and became a GIS professional!  This is a departure from the previous Ghost Town posts, as Laramie has grown drastically since its founding and is continuing to do so.  Below, I have stitched together both pages of the Sanborn Map Company's 1883 fire insurance map of Laramie.  The growth of downtown is immediately evident, as much of the area outside the immediate center of town, near Front St. and A St. is vacant on the map.

2nd Ave. and Ivinson
Below, I have zoomed in on the intersection of 2nd and Ivinson, an area where most of the original 1883 buildings still exist.  The image embedded in the bottom of this map is from 1940.  To orient yourself, see if you can find the pink building on the map that says "Books."  This corresponds to the "Laramie Book Co." building on the left side of the 1940 image.

Here is what 2nd and Ivinson looks like today.  Fittingly the building in the immediate foreground is home to West-Inc, an environmental consulting firm that is very much in the business of mapping and GIS:
And Here is a live webcam of the same intersection, looking west.
2nd Ave. Looking North
Here is another image from 1940 depicting 2nd Ave. looking north. Below it is Google Streetview from 2016, the year I also looked north and relocated to Montana.
